Deviated Septum Rhinoplasty

There are a number of different reasons for why a person may require rhinoplasty. The most common reason why people undergo this procedure is for cosmetic reasons, in other words to improve their appearance. These people are not happy with how their noses look and desire either physical perfection or at least a way to increase their attractiveness. Others seek out this treatment in order to treat the deformities in their noses that they are born with or that they have acquired from an accident or an injury that causes major or minor damage to their noses.

Sometimes there are health complications that go along with not having a perfect or properly shaped nose, due to problems with its development or structure. This is sometimes because of the condition of having a deviated septum or that wall that divides the nose into two nasal passages. A typical septum runs along the center of the nose. However, when it deviates from the center path, persons having this condition are said to have deviated septum’s.

When a person has a deviated septum, this can cause difficulties in normal breathing. It also prevents the growth of nasal passages on one side of the nose and can cause the growth of too much nasal membranes on the other side of the nose.

Meanwhile, some illnesses become more advanced and complicated whenever there is the presence of a deviated septum. For example, the mere occurrence of the common cold in an individual with a deviated septum can cause such individual to develop nose and even throat infections.  This is because of the abnormality in the shape of the nose and the inability of the nasal passages to operate properly.

This is the reason why those with deviated septum’s undergo deviated septum rhinoplasty or septoplasty. Here, the nose is reconstructed by first removing the septum, straightening it out and finally, putting the septum back inside the nose. Sometimes, the septoplasty is done together with a rhinoplasty that involves the reconstruction or enhancement of other parts of the nose.

Septoplasty in itself is a relatively simple and swift procedure. Most septoplasties can be completed within a few hours and do not require that the patient stay in the hospital overnight, or in other words, it is an outpatient procedure. Additionally, there is hardly any after effects such as edema or bruising after a septoplasty.

However, if the septoplasty procedure is done in conjunction with a rhinoplasty that involves the reconstruction of other parts of the nose, there is a chance that the patient will have to stay in the hospital for at least a night following the procedure.

What are the advantages of undergoing a septoplasty or a deviated septum rhinoplasty? First of all, those having problems and issues with their sinus and sinus infections will no longer experience such complications because their sinus and nasal passages will start working properly when their septum is in its proper place. Second, patients may also see the removal of the bumps or humps that having a deviated septum can bring about in their nasal structure.
