The blog is one of the most popular forms of media today. It derived its name from web log, because a blog is an online log or journal wherein one can say almost anything and everything he or she wants, as if it were a private diary.
Blogs are presented in website format. To be able to write a blog, all a person needs to do is sign up for a free account with a blog publisher, such as Live Journal, Weebly, Blogspot, and other similar sites. To publish content online through a blog, one must enter his or her text into a blank form and press the publish button. The blogger, as people who write on blogs are called, can also feature music, videos and photos.
A blogger is also entitled to create their own user account and blog name when such account is made with a blog website. The posts on the blog are presented in order of their publication, with the latest as the first to appear when you visit the blog site. Blogs are categorized by the particular topic they are about. Personal blogs are perhaps the most common kinds of blogs that are seen today. To make blogs similar to a private diary and as a venue to vent out one’s thoughts and ideas was the original idea of the concept of a blog.
However, today, the use of blogs has extended to being a marketing tool as well. Here, blogs are also used by companies and brands, where they devote such blogs to updating their viewers about the latest developments in their products or services, they publish press releases, and talk about their promos as well.
Blogs can also talk about food, where bloggers make reviews about the latest restaurants and their latest food discoveries. There are also blogs devoted purely to beauty. These blogs talk about the latest make up trends, the latest make up products, and the results when such products were tried and tested. Blogs about travel are also very popular, as these blogs tend to be rich with photos and interesting insights.
So popular are blogs nowadays that even mobile devices like cellular phones, iPhones, Blackberry phones and PDAs now have applications that allow you to publish posts on your blog, right from your mobile hand held device. As opposed to entering the data in the screen provided by your mobile device’s web browser, which is often difficult, if not impossible to work with, different blog providers have come up with user friendly and simpler applications to enable you to post photos, videos and your thoughts anytime of the day, through the convenience of your mobile phone.
From the blog, comes the concept of the blogosphere. The blogosphere is basically the blog community, where the users check each others blogs and make comments, replies, and reactions to posts in a certain blog or post their comments, replies and reactions in their own respective blogs. This can spark an entire discussion, which can lead to debates or just they can strengthen the fact that most people agree on what was presented in the blog post.
That is one of the main reasons why blogs are so important today. They are a main source of information, and they affect the way people think. Because of the amount of freedom bloggers have in the publishing of blog posts, there is a faster exchange of ideas and a more dramatic impact on the audience when these ideas are published. Access to blogs is also free, which is why they have a wider reach.
